Triton Invitational Men's Recap

LA JOLLA, Calif. - The UC Irvine men's track & field team closed out the Triton Invitational Saturday at UC San Diego.
 
Angel Cordero and Joshua Schuld led the Anteaters with individual victories. Cordero clocked in at 1:50.76 to finish first in an 800m field of 73 athletes. Cordero is unbeaten in his three 800m races this season.
 
Schuld won the 1500m in a personal-record 3:50.04. It was his second individual victory of the season. Zeid Hussain (3:56.84) and Juan Chantaca (3:57.70) also placed among the top-20.
 
Bryce Bushnell came in fourth out of 62 in the 100m dash with a wind-aided 10.68. Jake Jensen (10.74) added a top-10 showing.
 
AJ Taylor took sixth in the 110m hurdles at 14.79 seconds, while Roman Mendoza (54.17) was ninth in the 400m hurdles.
 
Cole Dinkler cleared a personal-record 4.70 meters (15-5) to tie for third in the pole vault.
 
Jacob Hawkins was fifth in the Elite section of the shot put. He was just shy of his season best with a toss of 17.83 meters (58-6).
 
Chimobi Onye placed fourth in the shot put with a personal-record 15.19 meters (49-10).
 
Garren Haynes paced a trio of 'Eaters in the long jump where he was seventh among 43 athletes. Haynes' best mark of the meet came on his first attempt where he reached 7.10 meters (23-2.5). Kenechukwu Okonkwo, whose main event is the triple jump, also notched a season-best 6.95m (22-9.75).
 
Alan Vuong tied for sixth in the high jump with a clearance of 1.96m (6-5).
 
UC Irvine will be back in action at the Bryan Clay Multis in Azusa (April 10-11) and the Friday Night Lights meet in Fullerton (April 11).
